Artist's Statement

Using photography and digital manipulation to create single images, series, and installations, I work at the border of contemporary photographic practice and post-conceptual art.

Everyday objects – visually transformed, placed in surprising new contexts, or unsettlingly juxtaposed – are my frequent collaborators. The works are equally formalist and conceptual, polemical and playful. The subtext of the work is fluidity and transformation. Objects transform into photographs. Objects appear to transform within the photographs. Photographs sometimes become objects. Meaning and purpose tilt and shift. One thing is ultimately revealed to be another – or to hold aspects of both itself and its opposite.

In my approach, I aim to reconcile the division between comedy and drama, inspiring the release of laughter (or at least a smile) while simultaneously opening the door to a discussion of artistic, social and psychological issues.
